We are sorry to announce that this post-congress tour had to be

cancelled due to current political situation in some regions

included in its itinerary, i.e. with regard to safety of participants.

This is especially regrettable because the excursion was proposed

by some people as early as in Adelaide. The CBT Travel Agency will

contact all who already made registration.

This is a nine-day excursion to Central Asia which will provide

opportunities a to see historical sites and to watch lovely

animals. The itinerary includes flights to Tashkent (one of the

oldest cities in the territory of former U.S.S.R. with a 2000-year

long history and beautiful old oriental palaces), then to Samarkand

(founded 1000 years B.C., former capital of the Timur Empire in the

13th century),bus transfer to Buchara (the best preserved fortified

medievaltown in the region), trips to the Kyzylkum desert, flight to

Dushanbe (capital of Tadzhikistan, with a trip to the romantic Varrob

canyon, which has beautiful waterfalls), a trip along the Gissar

Valley with the magnificent Gissar Citadel and a visit to Nurek Dam

Lake. The appointed CBT Travel Agency has many years of experience

with excursions into this corner of the world.

An eight-day tour covering short distances but allowing an in-depth

examination of the history of amphibians and reptiles. The tour

begins in Karlovy Vary (famous spa with hot mineral springs and

charming architecture), and continues through Nurnberg (historical

town with interesting ZOO) to Altmuehl Valley Nature Park (the

largest in Germany) with Eichstatt and Solnhofen museums, display-

ing unique Jurassic fossils, among them Archaeopteryx. Visit to

Nordlingen, an historical town in center of the Ries Meteorite

Crater, Hauff Museum in Holzmaden (with ichthyosaur embryos) and the

State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart. Besides the main

historical points of interest in Stuttgart, visitors can visit

Wilhelma Zoo, one of the finest zoological-botanical gardens in

Europe. Salzburg in Austria, at the foot of the Alps, also offers

numerous historical sights, such as Hohensalzburg fortress,

Mirabell Chateau, Mozart’s native house, charming Getreidegasse, etc.

This tour shows some of the most interesting sites of the former

Czechoslovakia. One can visit Tabor, a medieval town in South Bohemia,

Ceské Budejovice (the place of birth of real Budweiser), Hluboka

Chateau (Tudor Gothic, with rich interiors), Jindrichuv Hradec

(magnificent castle complex with historical collections), then Brno,

capital of Moravia (Spilberk Castle, and a visit to monastery where

J.G. Mendel discovered the principal laws of heredity). The tour

continues through Moravian Karst with romantic caves and Macocha

abyss, to the Moravian wine-growing area, passing Slavkov (=Austerlitz) where Napoleon won the ‘battle of three emperors’ in 1805. Then the coach

will cross the new border into Bratislava, capital of the Slovak

Republic. After sightseeng of Bratislava and its vicinity the tour

will visit Vienna, the capital of Austria, which is only 30 km from

Bratislava (Museum of Natural History, sightseeng tour including the

city center with Hofburg, St. Stephen’s dome, Opera house and city

hall, Schoenbrunn Chateau with its ‘Butterfly Pavillion’).
